"This is a lovely day indeed, the sun shines so brightly and the air is so pure and pleasant, it makes me feel much more comfortable altho I have to be confined to the house, and oh if those who can walk around & see varied hues of Autumn leaves & the many things which are pleasing to the eye, & gratifying to the mind could only know what blessings they are enjoying they would most certainly give thanks to the Giver of all good for the use of their limbs and the many blessings they are permitted to enjoy, yet strange to state, many of those who are thus so richly blessed seem to carry a load of anxiety and care and a look of bitterness as though life were a burden and had not charm for them. Dear ones let us look well to our condition & endeavor to know the why for all those dark forebodings, when there is so much to be thankful for even in this life, and the promice of everlasting rest & peace in the life that has no end. This morning my mind had been so impressed with the cause for thankfulness that I could not forbear making it my theme. This evening my heart was made to leap with joy at the news that my sister from the state of Missouri who had been gone twenty three years had come to the old home and a visit, I shall expect her to come see us tomorrow, oh that we may praise the Lord for all his blessings."
